“The Blackout” (2019)

“The Blackout” (2019) is a Russian sci-fi action thriller directed by Egor Baranov. The film is a high-concept, visually striking exploration of a near-future Earth facing a catastrophic event that plunges most of the world into darkness and chaos. It blends elements of science fiction, military action, and apocalyptic drama, offering a uniquely Russian perspective on the end-of-the-world scenario.
The story is set in the near future when a mysterious and sudden blackout occurs, cutting off communication and power to most of the world, except for a small area in Eastern Europe known as “The Circle.” The Circle, which includes parts of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, remains the only region unaffected by the blackout, leading to confusion and fear as the rest of the world goes dark.
A military task force is quickly assembled to investigate the phenomenon and protect the last bastion of humanity. As they venture into the blackout zones, they discover that most of the world’s population has been mysteriously wiped out, leaving behind only a few survivors who have turned into mindless, zombie-like creatures.
As the soldiers delve deeper into the mystery, they uncover evidence that the blackout is not a natural disaster but an invasion by an extraterrestrial force. The alien beings behind the event are preparing for a final assault on the remaining human survivors, leading to a desperate struggle for survival and the future of humanity.
