Outlander is a historical drama and science fiction television series that premiered in 2014, based on the book series by Diana Gabaldon. Developed by Ronald D. Moore, the show blends romance, time travel, historical fiction, and fantasy elements, gaining a devoted fanbase for its compelling storytelling, beautiful cinematography, and intricate period details.
Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall (played by Caitríona Balfe), a former World War II nurse, who mysteriously travels back in time from 1945 to 1743 Scotland. After accidentally touching a group of standing stones near Inverness, Claire finds herself thrown into a world of political unrest and violence during the Jacobite risings.
In 18th-century Scotland, Claire encounters Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan), a brave and romantic Highland warrior, and the two become romantically involved, despite Claire being married in her original time to Frank Randall (played by Tobias Menzies). 
Claire must navigate life in this dangerous and politically turbulent era while grappling with her divided loyalties between her two lives and the men she loves in different centuries.
